Easy, breezy Summer Style
It is the most anticipated season in West Michigan and usually takes the longest to arrive. But, the forecast is showing indication that summer is indeed upon us. Fashion is taking its cue from the weather - pops of floral, breezy midi lengths and wide culottes; sultry crop tops and high waist shorts. Here is a guide to all the summer’s hottest trends:
Flowy Lines – the skinny leg is a fashion staple, but the wide leg is enjoying its moment in the sun. Seen mostly in the form of high waist culottes (a cropped wide-leg pant), jumpsuits and denim. The rule of thumb is volume on the bottom equals slim fit on top. This is why we are seeing lots of tops hitting mid belly. It works with the high waist bottom and accentuates the waistline. The Billabong Fight It Pant and the Beach lunclounge Margot pant are two of my favorites, showing that this look can work from office to the beach.
Midi Moment – I’ve never been so happy to see so many dress options in the midi length. Midi = between knee and ankle, and I couldn’t agree more. When I was in my twenties, I loved to show off my youthful gams in a mini, but my late thirties definately lean more towards midi length. The Michael Star Willow Dress is incredibly versatile – heels for evening and a flat sandal for day. I had to buy the Mustard Seed Button Down Dress the moment I saw it, well, because it’s a beautiful shimmery purple and I feel like a fairy tale in in. The Z Supply Capri Wrap Dress is a favorite as well.
Flowers, my Dear – there is nothing more romantic and pretty than floral. This summer doesn’t disappoint – featuring a wide array of dresses, skirts and jumpsuits both sweet and sassy. The Free People Lille Printed Maxi gives ode to the Hawaiian tropics and a bohemian vibe. The Sanctuary Palm Springs Dress features a sexy cut with elegant florals, and the Billabong Skipper Skirt is a fun, cool option for a hot, sunny day.
Crop it – As the waistlines get higher, the tops get shorter. The Free People Baja top is so cute with high waist shorts. Others Follow Lana Tank is a great example of this trend and a staple item. Wear it with a skirt, denim or culottes. Layer a thin tank underneath if there is space between where the top and bottom meet if you want extra coverage.
The excitement of summer is in the parties, get-togethers and the Holidays we plan. Backyard bar-b-ques, campfires and days on the beach, spent with those we love. There many fun ideas and options at jb and me for all of your summer occasions! Check us out in store and online!
