Elements of Design
There are some interesting things happening this Fall in fashion. Designers are thinking outside of the box, adding ties, cut-outs and functional design elements to sweaters, tees and coats. Many of us experienced the “coolness” of the cold shoulder this spring and summer; and, as we move to fall, cut-outs are still a hot trend. Cold Shoulders, elbows and arms have a strong presence as well as design elements like laces and ties. Here are a few of my favorite details at jb and me right now:
Survival Ladder Sleeve Top – This is such a great basic with a twist. I love the burnt orange color this top is available in. The fit is relaxed through the middle with a slimmer arm, showing off the ladder detail. This play on the current cutout trend is one we will see into winter and spring – showing skin on the arm and elbows rather than just the shoulder.
Coated Suede Jacket – I personally love this jacket. The faux leather is soft and flexible to wear and the cut is incredibly flattering. And can I mention the color? The perfect shade of buttery caramel that goes with everything?! The flowy neckline gives volume and a cascading effect, but can be zipped off if you are needing for a more fitted, cropped jacket style. I think the flowy neckline is great with jeans and a tee, but the fitted cropped style is amazing with a dress or skirt. I see it with a floral midi dress and lace up booties. This is really an amazing deal for two functional, stylish jacket options.
Tie Front Sweater and the Asymmetrical Lace Up Sweater – While you can surely find a plain t-shirt or sweater if the outfit calls for one, this Fall we are seeing so many fun design details. The Tie Front Sweater is another great basic with a twist. The slouchy, almost sweatshirt-esque top has a tie bottom, a shimmery silky front and sleeves that remind me of cozy French-terry. The play on texture is interesting and gives an otherwise simple design something special. The Asymmetrical Lace-Up Sweater has a basic shape and knit, buts adds a delicate lace up on the side. The effect is romantic and whimsical.
Tie Sleeves, Bell Sleeves – So many sleeve details leave us Michigan girls wondering, how will we ever wear a heavy jacket without damaging the details? Well ladies, where there’s a will, there’s a way. I plan to become very good at folding and arranging voluminous sleeves into my down parka. Besides, have we ever let a little snow keep us from a major fashion moment? Please.
I hope you all have as much fun with this season’s details as I plan to.
