Summer Dress-ing
It feels like SUMMER has finally arrived! The warm sunshine, the lofty breezes and the sound of children playing outside - sometimes I stop myself, stand still, and breathe in all the sights and smells. In Michigan, we wait so long for our summers (and they are soo good!) that I want to enjoy each moment.
A big part of summer fun is in the fashion (of course!). Every few weeks, I get the opportunity to visit Jamie at jb and me and try on all the new, exciting arrivals. We were especially charmed by the selection of comfortable, stylish dresses. I personally am always attracted to dresses in the summer months because I find them more flattering than shorts. They offer a cooler option than a crop pant; and, are perfect from office and casual. Here are a few of my favorite trends in dresses right now!

Floaty, Flowy – I love a good maxi dress no matter the season, and this summer, we are seeing amazing styles that flatter all body types and can be dressed up or down. I love the cool sherbet shade of the PPLA Farlow Dress. This dress is perfect with a kitten heel for a wedding or a leather flip flop and a wide brimmed hat for a sunny day at the market.

The versatility of these dresses is truly amazing. The Free People Floral printed maxi is another show-stopper. Available in two colors, this fit is super flattering and can be worn as is, or layered with a sleeveless tee and knotted for a more casual vibe.

Another favorite is the Mixed Flower Maxi Dress – the price point on this one is incredible at $59.00.

Show me some Shoulder! – The shoulder is still hanging on this season as the area to reveal. Jb and Me has lots of fun tops and tunics that are off shoulder. I especially like some of the shoulder-less dresses. You can style them with a bralette underneath, if you’re more comfortable; or, go strapless and show off those tanned shoulder blades! The ABS Dress is a sweet off shoulder dress in white that offers a strap detail and the Billabong Marked For Dress is super cute and a great price at $54.95.

Tees, Tees, Tees – Summer is practically synonymous with the t-shirt and, really, what is better than a t-shirt dress?? The relaxed, casual vibe of the t-shirt dress is perfect for weekends at the beach, flip flops and hammock naps. So basically, we all need one. Here are a few of my tops:
The Chaser Flutter Sleeve is a t-shirt dress with a twist. This style steps things up with the flutter sleeve, making it a great date night option or GNO staple. The Z Supply Washed Dress is great beach to patio option and the Sanctuary Island Maxi takes the t-shirt dress to great lengths with this maxi style with a slit and tie waist (another great evening option).

Patterns, please! – Yes, nautical stripes do rule as the ultimate in summer patterns, however, this year there are a number of sweet florals (and fruits) and plays on stripes that you need to check out.

The ABS Embroidery Dress is an intricate, subtly sexy and sweet as pie number that rocks in a midi style. Wear this dress and you are guaranteed to be asked a million times, “Where did you get that?”.
